Home Hardware Employee
Colin had a job he loved at the Canadian Tire in Waterdown. It was a position he had held for several years, a place where he had made lasting friendships, and experienced success. However, in the summer of 2022, Colin relocated with his family to a rural property approximately 20 minutes outside of Dunnville, Ontario, in Haldimand County.

The Leap Employment Services helped me find a job that I love and Home Hardware is a really great place to work.

Leap Employment Services then contacted the Home Hardware in Dunnville and explained that there was an excellent candidate that would make a positive addition to their team. Leap Staff were told that they didn’t currently have any available positions, though Home Hardware was agreeable to meeting Colin so that he could practice his interview skills. Shortly after meeting Colin, Leap Staff received an email from the Human Resources Department requesting a second interview. This interview involved the management and supervisor of the shipping and receiving department. Following that meeting Colin was offered a job. When asked about the process Colin stated that he is really happy to have found a job that he loves and is now earning enough money to live comfortably.

Here is Colin’s take on his experience: ”I am a shy person and meeting new people is difficult for me sometimes. I was also new to the area and I didn’t know much about the community. The Leap Employment Services Staff were really great. They helped me find a job that I love and Home Hardware is a really great place to work. I love it”

Colin reports that supplementing his ODSP and eventually becoming completely financially independent were his primary goals, but he also wanted to find a job that he would enjoy after having experienced several successful years at his previous job. Colin conceded that “living in the country makes it hard to look for work and get to places but, Phil came to my house and picked me up.”

It’s hard for Colin to put his finger on what he likes the most about his new job. “There are too many aspects of my job that I love to pick just one. Learning about all of the products and how to use the scanner was challenging at first because it’s a big store and it is different than my last job.”

Lastly, Colin has some advice for others who may be looking for work in Haldimand/Norfolk Counties. “I would you tell anyone who is looking for work in this area to connect with Leap Employment Services.”
